Described as “sweet scented”, Velma Grove are an indie roots six-piece from Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.
Hidden behind the name is 18 year old Max Roberts (formerly frontman for Welcome Wednesday and Madison), who wrote, recorded and released their debut EP ‘Head For Heart’, a reflection of emotions encountered over Summer 2011-12.
“I founded the project with the attitude as a songwriter disguised by a name, simular to Owl Eyes, Gotye or a Bon Iver type thing”.
‘Head For Heart’ was recorded in Roberts’ small home studio over late nights and early mornings, when the house was quiet and he was alone with his thoughts and his guitar.
Now a six-piece band, Velma Grove are working steadily on their debut album (set to be released early in 2013) which will be recorded at Roberts’ new home-based El Dorado studios.
